Please click on the ISR Registration Link to register your child (located at the top right corner of this page). WHAT Is Infant Swimming Resource (ISR)?
Since 1966, ISR is nationally recognized as the safest provider of survival swimming lessons for infants and young children (6 months – 6 years). Over 45 years of research and development, certified instructors committed to safety and a proven history of success with ISR’s Self-Rescue® program provides parents with the confidence their children are receiving the best instruction available today.
ISR recognizes that pool fences, adult supervision and pool alarms are necessary approaches to drowning prevention, however, over 4,000 drowning deaths per year still occur. ISR’s core philosophy remains the fact that the child is the most important part of drowning prevention. Over 300,000 ISR graduates and over 800 documented survival stories are proof that children can save themselves.
Children from 6-12 months focus on Rollback to Float, rest and breathe until help arrives.
Children from 12 months to 6 years focus on Swim-Float-Swim survival sequence. They learn to swim with their head down; roll onto their back to float, rest, and breathe; roll back over to resume swimming to the steps or side of a pool where they either crawl out of the pool or are rescued.
Refresher lessons are important in maintaining your child’s ISR’s Self-Rescue® skills. Children should return for refresher lessons within 3-6 months of completing ISR
Meet Your Certified ISR Instructor!
Julia Deal is a Certified ISR Instructor located in Mandeville, Louisiana. I graduated from University of California, Davis in 1992, Tulane University in 1994 and Loyola University School of Law in 2001. I learned about ISR while visiting my 3 year old god-daughter who lives in Winter Haven, Florida. I just knew I had to find the time outside of my estate planning law practice to get certified and offer ISR to children in my area!
Prior to practicing law, I worked with pediatric patients at Children’s Hospital in New Orleans in the Nuclear Medicine Department. I remain CPR and First Aid Certified by the American Heart Association as well – another requirement of being a Certified ISR Instructor.
Although I continue to practice law part-time, I find teaching ISR’s Self-Rescue® skills to children on the Northshore, South Shore and Mississippi is life-changing for families. So many of us spend time in our pools, on our boats, and in bodies of water regularly that ISR lessons provide another layer of protection for our precious children in addition to fences and supervision. This is why ISR Self-Rescue® skills are so important!
Teaching ISR allows me to positively impact families in an area of our country where enjoyment of the water is as much a way of life as is a crawfish boil with friends and family.
